Thank you for expressing interest in becoming an affiliate faculty member at the Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University. We are proud of our innovative curriculum and our outstanding students, and appreciate the support of our affiliate faculty.

We are a community based medical school and are distinctly aware of what an important role our affiliate hospitals and faculty play in our training program.

We hope that you can become a member of our strong team of medical educators and that you find your role with the medical students meaningful and rewarding.

Appointment Process

Please submit the items below in order for your formal appointment process to begin. If you have any questions or concerns during the process, please contact us by email or phone.

Once your appointment has been reviewed by the CAP Committee, you will receive a letter stating your faculty status in the mail.

Research FAQ

Can affiliate faculty participate in research or scholarly activities at the Schmidt College of Medicine?
Affiliate faculty are encouraged to mentor students, residents, and fellows in research, as well as collaborate with employed FAU faculty. Faculty members who are involved in research, affiliate and employed, may be listed in our Research Faculty Directory. Affiliate faculty collaborating with medical students or residents/fellows should obtain approval through College of Medicine's Office of Student Affairs or from the respective program director. Affiliate faculty engaging in research are responsible for familiarizing themselves with and abiding by all relevant FAU research policies.
Can affiliate faculty submit protocols to FAU's IRB?

Affiliate faculty may serve as co-investigators (Co-I) on studies in collaboration with an FAU-employed faculty member serving as Principal Investigator (PI). Affiliate faculty may not serve as PI on protocols submitted to the FAU IRB per the Division of Research Principal Investigator Eligibility policy. Under special circumstances, affiliate faculty may serve as PI with approval from FAU's Vice President for Research.

Can affiliate faculty utilize FAU space, staff or other resources for research or scholarly activity purposes?
Affiliate faculty members have access to university resources as described in this document. Affiliate faculty do not have access to FAU space or staff for research purposes, except when working with an FAU-employed faculty member or under special circumstances outlined above.
